TWO STEPS FORWARD
SUSANNAH FOSTER

Two Steps Forward explores kinetic movement as an awkward performance, drawing upon ideas from Theatre of the Absurd. Repetitive action and struggle towards a goal creates a dialogue about failure and success in a durational setting. The work also combines found objects to create collages that explore the current socio-economic and architectural landscape in a ritualistic fashion. Continuing this exploration, Two Steps Forward includes work made by the artist while taking part in a residency in Detroit, a city currently in the process of redefining community and labour roles following the discontinuation of automotive manufacturing and the subsequent decline in population.
