PAINTINGS
KIRSTY BUDGE – NICHOLAS RYRIE – NELL PEARSON – GABRIEL CURTIN

Paintings originated from a shared interest in the potential and the limitations within the craft of painting. Despite the differences in their respective processes and outcomes, the artists’ found their relationships to painting were analogous, each viewing painting as a means of navigating experience and translating it into something more tangible, while recognising the impossibility of achieving such a task. The artists share the conviction that the language of painting and the subjects of its expression are largely ineffable. Paintings presents painting as an ambiguous space rather than a problem to be solved or something to be defined or concluded. It is simply an occasion for four painters’ work to interact within a space and an opportunity to consider painting as a platform for an experience that is not easily articulated.
