The works in this exhibition come from a discovery of the Icelandic winter throughout January 2016. The landscapes and conditions encountered are something I’ll never truly be able to articulate. At best, I can provide a glimpse, an abstract impression of the sensory immersion in traversing the surrounds of Iceland. Even when the physical conditions were harsh and the storms and blizzards set in, there was an ever-constant calm and internal celebration of nature throughout. This provided a unique perspective towards my ongoing observations of landscape but also of my own self whilst within it. It challenged and provoked how I approach the very act of seeing, creating a delicate patience and embracement of my gaze outwards. These initial works aim to give an impression of these experiences, a humbled attempt to reflect this magical and bewildering place.
