Overhang
Pippa Makgill
Pippa Makgill’s past oeuvre has addressed the idea of shifting materiality and the presence of the ‘formless’ in sculpture. Her new body of work for c3 addresses painting as a new field of enquiry. The idea of ‘fluidity’ is a concept applied to her work that often has captured the idea of gesture within static mediums. The work in Overhang considers the materiality of paint and canvas and experimenting with its body and edges. Her practice heavily focuses on process and experimentation where the paint is left to carve out its own form. These works seek to reveal process, materiality, touch and tension between the figure and ground of traditional painting approaches.
