FOR THIS HOUR

“Your life on earth will be, as always, the interval between two significant glances in a mundane mirror.”

The Beautiful and Damned – F. Scott Fitzgerald

For this hour explores the daily rituals performed during the creation of a face to display to the world. Our carefully cultivated facade is impermanent – whether it is a product of youth or cosmetic enhancement, it ultimately wears out or wears off.
This series of oil paintings depict the process of privately transforming the facial surface for public view in an ambiguous space devoid of context, where the line between enhancement and distortion can become blurred by the intoxicating gaze of the mirror.
