DECADENT BEHAVIORAL PATTERNS
JON BUTT
CONVENT STUDIO PROGRAM

Decadent Behavioral Patterns is an exhibition of extraordinarily detailed, large-scale drawings that focus on the decorative excesses of ornamentation within the constructed environment. Referencing the concept of ‘spiritual architecture’ and the notion that ethereal transformation is possible when surrounded by fantasy and opulence, the works depict mosques, churches, temple gardens and royal palaces, as well as the patterns from nature that inform the design origin of these worlds.

The subject matter ranges from intricate architectural renderings to eloquent abstractions of nature.

This project is supported by a City of Yarra Arts Development grant.
