CORINNA BERNDT

My work is mainly driven by the idea of spreading microcosms and the wish to establish a sort of pseudo-science between groups of found objects.
When I encounter a thing I always want to isolate and relocate the object into a completely new context. Things that are being so busily produced to fulfill some purpose in today’s consumer culture are often overlooked, or taken for granted, especially those items belonging to the domestic sphere.
I am interested in objects that appear to have no particular function, and that would normally be described as tacky or ugly. In my work I like to juxtapose non-functional kitsch with discarded domestic items that usually fill up the shelves of OP shops or Salvos stores. To me these abandoned household items are like “object-ghosts”, having been useful once, they now hover somewhere in an in-between state of having no longer being in use, and waiting to be given a new context.
