When I was in junior school our fitness test included a 2.4km run. During the test, a friend cheered me on, but then she stopped abruptly and left. I think she got bored. Another time, at a marathon, a friend said she’d stay with me throughout the course but sped up and left me about a third of the way in. I now classify myself as a ‘bad runner’, although I’m not sure if that’s because I really am bad.
A little while ago I went on a long hike through a national park. I hadn’t experienced land, texture and colour like that before. I’m happy I went there. But when I was faced with a similar hiking adventure a few months later, I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t get pass the ‘bad runner’; I wasn’t brave.
I’m working on my courage to continue exploring these places, but until I do, I’ve decided to make my own. This is one of those places, and I hope you enjoy it.
