OBJECT RELATIONS (OR)
ALICE MATHIEU AND MADÉ SPENCER-CASTLE

Imagine a world without objects. We all need objects in our lives.
Whether through a strictly functional or purely aesthetic relationship, objects remind us of what we are, and of what we are not. This dichotomous relationship highlights the aspects that differentiate humanity from other things. Object Relations presents a collection of objects from Melbourne. Contributors from across the globe have been presented with one of these objects and asked to name it in their native language. Object Relations explores the way we relate and identify with objects through language and how they play an integral role in understanding our own humanity.
Alice Mathieu and Madé Spencer-Castle are a collaborative duo interested in the shifting values of objects. Their practice bridges the artistic and curatorial, with recent exhibitions held at West Space, Mailbox Art Space and Bus Projects. Mathieu and Spencer-Castle are graduates of the Victorian College of the Arts and current KINGS Artist Run committee members.
