Gallery 1 – Foyer Space
Formless
Britt Salt
c3’s foyer is by nature a ‘mid-space’ between exterior and defined-interior space. Formless, an immersive installation, aims to highlight this feature, employing pattern, transparency and innovative origami processes to explore the intricacies of place in this transitory environment. Formless sees a vast undulating pattern span the foyer’s architectural surfaces. As the viewer moves through the space a series of suspended mesh sculptures will appear and dissolve within the patterned surrounds, conflating the gallery environment into one weightless surface. Here, the viewer is given the sense that they are experiencing a space that is both solid and ephemeral. I look to question, if a space hovers between these two states, how might it be defined as a ‘place’?
