WHERE WERE YOU? ALL THINGS
ADRIAN STOJKOVICH, DANIEL STOJKOVICH, JESSE DAYAN
The picture, its aesthetic character, is the disguise of something that is absolutely inaccessible if it is not disguised. – Luc Tuymans
Artists Adrian and Daniel Stojkovich and Jesse Dayan test the fidelity of images by reproducing them. The images are peripheral to major historical/political junctures in Latin American history. Through painting, drawing and darkroom photography, these artists are attempting to recover something from history that is perceptible only at a certain remove. Perhaps it is the narrativity of history? Or a hint of the primordial conflicts that condition the political? Whichever or both, the aim is to make history proximate, by deferring it.
