蟎 MAN INSECT

蟎 Man Insect continues a kind of interspecies conversation first explored in an installation ay Austral Avenue, Brunswick in July 2007. For that exhibition the work focused on an exchange between Greengrocer and a cicada common to the Melbourne suburbs.
For the exhibition at c3, an audiovisual installation is constructed based on work done at the Redgate residency in Beijing, Chine that illustrates the relationships locals have with the common singing insects of their city. Keeping pets for pleasure is a new world construct for Chinese, their main use was always for competitive ends and crickets were bought and sold for their fighting and singing prowess.
