STONES YOU MAY OR MAY NOT TURN OVER
TORI FERGUSON
Stones you may or may not turn over depicts the artist engaged in a subtle repetitive movement: endlessly turning over stones. Partly filmed in Almería, a province of Spain that has been over farmed for centuries, this gesture removes nothing from the landscape, and yet alters its surface significantly. The artist’s action links the naturally occurring phenomena of rock sedimentation to that of memory production. The work acknowledges a multiplicity of choices, actions, and objects, of attempting to account for things, to let go of things, and to prioritise nothing.
