THEORY OF FORMS

The modern human being consumes more imagery in one day than someone who lived in the fifteenth century would have in his or her whole lifetime. We have movies, Internet, I-phones and the ongoing bombardment of big advertisement campaigns. Within each moment of everyday we engage with and encounter differing stimuli that construct our over arching environments and ourselves. Within his work Van Katwijk investigates these fragments that go around his world and mind. Through abstract paintings these impressions are realised. A paint imprint on his studio floor. The power of religion in our western society. A song heard on the radio while sitting in traffic on his daily commute home. The corporate power that banks now yield. Combining these different subjects and translating them through an abstract language presents a painted theory of forms, be it with a slightly gloomy view of the society we live in.
