INERTIA
NINA GILBERT & XANTHE WAITE
Inertia is the resistance of any physical object to a change in its state of motion or rest, or the tendency of an object to resist any change in its motion (including a change in direction).
Nina Gilbert’s and Xanthe Waite have worked individually and collaboratively to investigate the experience of inertia – physical/cultural displacement, oppositional force and ultimately inertia as a state of being. Inertia expands on the traditional function and form of the photographic medium; including digital and 16mm video installation, photographic prints, sound installation and text. It aims to create a body of work that in its entirety is strange, moving too fast and moving too slow.
