NOTHING IS SET IN STONE
NAOMI ELLER
This body of work entails numerous ceramic sculptures and tablets that reflect my continual interest in the many ways classical antiquity and our own contemporary understanding of how we see ourselves can be explored.
Adam and Eve are the generic representations of man and woman, the snake as a force of life, death and choice. The use of the three fates through many cultures each control aspects of our time on Earth. Birds since the time of antiquity have been the ethereal beings, the divinities.
The use of all these symbols continually inform an ongoing dialogue in my practice, exploring the weight of our existence as mortals and our yearnings for a trust in the inevitable abstraction that is life. The historical referencing help contextualise and affirm our inherent nature and provide the dialogue between our past and present.
