To Practice is to Keep Trying
Jacqui Gordon
To Practice is to keep trying forms part of a larger project, Listening Through the West, which stems from research into the history of the Whitten Oval in West Footscray and Women’s Football teams. To Practice is to Keep Trying utilises the language of football training drills to create a game for participants to play in the gallery. The instructions will have a focus on listening to each other as well as using body and gesture to communicate with one another.
In the arts, our practice is to continuously practise. To keep trying something new, to change, to inspire, to create affect. In sport, to practise is to prepare for the game, to prepare for a battle, to prepare to win. This project aims to explore the lines between the role of art and sport within our society and within what we call Australia.
