EL GRAN LINDER
ERNESTO RIOS (MEXICO)
El Gran LIDER (The Great Leader) is the name of a hugely popular underground band in Mexico. Unknown in the city, they play popular music in small rural villages to massive audiences. When the band comes to play, their logo is painted in a huge, naïve font like a political slogan announcing the band’s imminent arrival. This mural is lifted straight from a small village in Mexico, and into the white space of the gallery, a de-contextualised ready-made slice of culture. Next to this, photographic works in triptych, are shown, playing with a collection of images of Mexico. The triptychs are created based on color, text, contradictions and relationships.
