ALWAYS BE AS KIND AS YOU ARE RIGHT NOW
BRENNAN OLVER
Always be as kind as you are right now is a show with a title based on an utterance made by an anonymous person. I developed a role of film I found in an old camera in a thrift store; I couldn’t have imagined what would be on the film. What emerged, of course, was banal and significant. It was a fresh glance at another life. I can’t place what time the photos were taken, but it is certain that they’re from another time. The clothes worn by the women in the photographs could possibly be worn by woman of that age, now. It’s hard to tell. But the acidic red glaze over the film tells me that the film is old. This is what I know and what I don’t know.
Scratch marks, decay, residue (resonating), drawings, use, trace, a hair
left behind, a broken jar,
pour out the contents of your bag,
cheap acrylic paint,
a strangers hand.
