Architectural icons, cities and their built schemes underpin systems of power and are cultural influencers, message carriers with their own symbolic authority. Cities are a complex manifestation of human civilization and could be seen as an expression of the human psyche. Historically cities were strategic strongholds and epicenter’s of geographic power, bases from which to send out commodities and staging points from which new spaces were conquered. In some ways contemporary urban identities are indelibly linked and rooted in these historical narratives and ideas. Cities still play their part in the quest in the ascendancy of thought and competition for cultural and physical space.
