Foam Fields
Shannon Calcott
Contemporary practice demonstrates that photography can be a prompt, a process, a vehicle, a collective pursuit and not just the physical end of solitary artists’ endeavours. – Charlotte Cotton
Foam Fields is a project in response to Charlotte Cotton’s article Nine Years, A Million Conceptual Miles. It attempts to add to the discussion on contemporary art photography and the process of image making through material and technical explorations. This series delivers landscape imagery not as the subject matter but as a vehicle to expand the dialogue of the unbounded possibilities of the photographic image and photography as a medium. In Foam Fields, the photographic process is the journey, the camera is the passport and the destination or ‘paradise’ is the positive colour image.
