GALLERY 2
RADIUS AND EXTENSION
NAOMI NICHOLLS
Radius and Extension maps out the marks created when the reach of the wrist, shoulder and body are traced out in paint. This makes the marks unique to the painter’s length and movement, a signature of the body over the whole gallery floor.
This floor painting is outside the conventional painting frame, instead using the limits of the room as its boundaries. It has been created partially in the studio where it has none of its future boundaries as a reference point, and is then foisted upon the installation space. The rest of the work is completed at the time of gallery installation where margins are in place.
