GIVE AND TAKE
RIA GREEN – LYDIA HEATH (UK) – MIA MALA MCDONALD – LIZZY SAMPSON
Give and Take is a group project involving Ria Green, Lydia Heath (UK), Mia Mala McDonald and Lizzy Sampson. Over the past six months, these four artists have initiated an ongoing discussion by each proposing a project related to pre-currency exchange.
Their discussions prompted various lines of enquiry, including re-examining objects traded in the Batman Treaty, entering into a gift economy of their own, exploring time as currency and verbally negotiating a group contract. These separate starting points have led to the body of work in this exhibition.
While the ideas proposed all relate to pre-currency systems of exchange, the outcomes are a series of group projects, which have merged four very different and individual practices into one negotiated body of work.
