THE VANISHING

We all experience loss. It’s part of what it means to be human. Yet despite its defining nature and the intensity with which we experience it, it is surprisingly elusive to convey. With The Vanishing, I am attempting to capture the visceral empty space we inhabit when confronted with a paralysing loss. A space where one is disfigured by an overwhelming bodily memory that becomes a part of our physiology.
These landscapes are printed on clear reflective material and taped directly onto the wall. The materiality acts as a metaphor, echoing the impermanence and fractured remnants of memory. The viewer is mirrored in the work, becoming a part of the changing reflection.
Through the sheer blackness of deep water, the cavernousness of the cave, and the ephemeral nature of clouds, these images echo our internal landscape. There’s an ever-presence of death that moves through it, as it moves through us.
