ISABELLE SULLY
Small movements amounting to nothing. Small movements together amounting to something.
Isabelle Sully’s practice draws on notions of locality to produce spatial play.
Using materiality to prompt awareness to situation, she draws on Enlightenment ideals and Modernist tendencies to reverse the preciousness of object hood in art in pursuit of a social turn.
Documenting actions through video, abstracting functional objects such as balls and shelving and generating dialogue through recorded dialogue itself, Sully’s practice is a series of open ended experiments in material form that begin to sketch out ways of approaching the world.
Ultimately referring to ways in which we organize ourselves through architectural and urban perimeters, space is treated as a starting point through which dwelling and situation become central.
